Roots of Reading: Natural Early Literacy for Infants

A parent’s guide to early literacy beginning in infancy

In collaboration with my church, I am ecstatic to share Roots of Reading: Natural Early Literacy for Infants.

These short books are filled with holistic learning activities— all developmentally appropriate, based on current evidence, and aligned with my clinical approach and Bright Orthodoxy’s ancestral Abrahamic values.

Why Roots of Reading: Natural Early Literacy for Infants?

When considering early literacy instruction for their infant, parents who share our values face a dilemma. These parents recognize the importance of literacy in today’s increasingly text-driven world. Literacy grants autonomy, dignity, and the means to more fully connect with humanity. And yet, commercially available programs work in opposition to those end goals.

Many programs encourage young children to engage with objects or hinge on their passive consumption of educational media. In others, gimmicky, adult-led strategies disempower learners who should be growing into their agency. Parents searching for a more authentic approach to infant learning are left to improvise and hope for the best.

Roots of Reading: Natural Early Literacy for Infants offers these families a values-driven early literacy program that synthesizes science with instinct. These naturalistic strategies teach the foundational skills for self-directed learning on your child’s path toward early literacy. Out of respect for you, your baby and the subject— when space permits I outline the logical progression from the skills addressed in the program all the way up to reading at a kindergarten level.

Research evidence supports our approach, which is reflected in parenting strategies across pre-industrialized cultures. It comes as no surprise that these align with the Abrahamic principles of Bright Orthodoxy, as informed by scripture and ancestral knowledge— wisdom converges.
